HSE Prosecutes Eastern Regional ShopFitters Ltd

HSE works hard to address safety and health issues at workplace and companies that fail to abide by its norms have to face strict action. In a recent case, HSE indicted Eastern Regional Shopfitters Ltd, Cambridgeshire, for exposing workers to dangerous conditions at workplace.

It pleaded guilty of violating Regulations 5, 8 and 11 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006, which binds companies to examine the workplace to rule out the presence of asbestos and take sufficient safety measures to protect their employees. It even tried to remove the asbestos, although, it did not have a licence to do it. In addition, it also violated Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 by sending workers to work in dangerous environment.
Last week, Trafford Magistrates’ Court ordered the company to pay a fine of £4,000 and additional sum of £3,215 to cover the costs of proceedings.
